Info for Singers
Message from Jason:
Dear SRCS Choristers,
Summer is rapidly coming to a close, and the new season of choral singing is just a few weeks away. The Board and I have been working hard for the last several weeks to put together a very exciting and varied season of concerts and opportunities for you to enjoy and participate in. On September 29, we will begin rehearsing our Holiday/Christmas Concert – Christmas Time is Here! - a jazz- themed concert that will feature medleys from The Grinch and the beloved Charlie Brown Christmas special among other selections, and will have as its centerpiece the Bob Chilcott five movement Nidaros Jazz Mass. This concert is to be performed on Dec. 8. However, (drum roll please), in addition to the scheduled Holiday Concert on Dec. 8, we have also been invited to be guest artists in the Rappahannock Pops Orchestra’s own Christmas concert on Dec. 14 at James Monroe High School. In their concert, we will sing with the orchestra a mix of holiday songs specially chosen for choir and orchestra by myself and their Music Director, Jim Ford. Two exciting appearances for the SRCS ensemble this holiday season! And there may be more, but we’re just not ready to reveal anything further at this time.
In the spring, we will be presenting a concert of all swing/big band music around the premise of putting on a 1940s radio hour program. This concert will feature great swing standards, and also have numerous opportunities for soloists as well as actors who want to do period-appropriate skits, jingles, or commercials. The date and location for this concert are TBD, but are likely to be mid-March held at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Fredericksburg.
Our summer offering will be a celebration of opera and operetta, hopefully to be in late June at a third, idyllic location. This concert will feature great opera and operetta choruses from masters such as Verdi, Gilbert and Sullivan, Puccini, Victor Herbert and others, and will again allow for numerous solo/diva moments. Get out the ball gowns ladies!
There are also other outreach concerts planned and in the works along the way . We will make you aware of them as they solidify.
This is a very exciting time to be a singer and contributing volunteer to the Stafford Regional Choral Society. I hope you will consider participating in all our concerts, plus spread the word about our call for new singers, our fun and entertaining programming, and our desire to reach out into the community and sing and entertain for an ever-widening audience. As I go into my second year as Music Director/Artistic Director of SRCS, I am thrilled at the possibilities that lie before us, and more than a little excited about what we can accomplish musically together. Please spread the word. This will be a season not to miss.
